Lesley and Peter, Guyers House, Corsham

I had a wonderful day with Lesley and Peter at their beautiful wedding recently, and what a day it was.

A little after I joined the M5 heading south, the heavens opened. The weather stayed pretty much the same for some hours. Luckily the powers that be were on our side and not long after the ceremony, the rain stopped and the day just got better and better.

The wedding was held at Guyers house, which was absolutely gorgeous, as were the surrounding grounds. I have to say a huge thank you to Wendy ( assistant manager ) and all of the staff for being so helpful and taking care of me.

I know that Lesley and Peter are flying off tomorrow and would like to wish them a wonderful time. May the weather be fab.

As always it is a great pleasure and an honour to be a part of a clients wedding day. I would like to express my thanks and best wishes to the Bride and Groom and wish them many, many years of happiness.

Jay and Anne, Iscoyd Park, Shropshire

I recently had the great pleasure of covering the wedding of Jay and Anne at Iscoyd park in Shropshire.

I have known Jay and Anne since meeting them at a wedding I covered almost 3 years ago now. The groom that day, Alex, was Jay's best man, Jay having been "super groomsman" for Alex back then.

I travelled up to Iscoyd the night before the wedding. I was so very luck to stumble upon the most lovely B&B,http://www.mulsfordcottage.co.uk/index.html  The B&B is run by Kate who couldn't have been nicer. I was treated to a very welcome cup of tea and managed to catch the last 30 mins of Andy's last game at Wimbledon.

Having unpacked, I headed over to Iscoyd Park  http://www.iscoydpark.com/  . Iscoyd is firmly up there with the best locations around. without a doubt one of my favourites to this day. We had a wonderful evening in the grounds, enjoying a fantastic BBQ and great company.

The day of the wedding was absolutely gorgeous. The sun shone, the guests looked wonderful and the Bride and Groom were on fine form. The ceremony was filled with laughter, the odd tear and much joy.

Ceremony completed, guests enjoyed champagne on the lawn and terrace whilst french cricket, croquet and various other games were played. The Bride and Groom even got in on the action.

I would like to thank Kate at Mulsford for her hospitality, Phillip at Iscoyd for such a wonderful location. No wonder it has been voted one of the top 100 wedding locations by Conde Nast Bride.

Most of all I would like to thank Jay and Anne for allowing me to be a part of their wedding day. It was a beautiful day and a true pleasure to be involved.

Image of the week 6

I know, I know, image of the week is not strictly true at the moment. Busy, busy,busy.

This weeks image was shot at a wedding in Bristol a little while ago. The day was fantastic. Nice prep coverage in the morning followed by the ceremony and reception which were held at Riverstation http://www.riverstation.co.uk/home

After the ceremony, the Bride, Groom and a good number of guests headed for the docks, where they boarded the Matthew. The ship is a wonderful galleon which transported the guests back down the river, docking opposite Riverstation in time for the speeches and the wedding breakfast.

This image was taken just after the groom had very kindly offered to give the Bride a piggy back ( yes there is an image of that too ). I love the moment of the shot. It's very simple and is created simply by the environment and the moment shared by the Bride and Groom before joining their guests for the celebrations. As soon as I took the shot I knew it would become a favourite. Sometimes you just know that you have something great. Call it timing, call it serendipity, call it a nice snap, I just call it a privilege to be able to do this for a living.

Image of the week 5

This weeks image is one from the wedding of Paul and Lisa, going back to Dec 2008.

I love this shot for various reasons but I guess it would really boil down to two things. The Moment and the light.

The moment speaks pretty much for itself really. The look of pride and adoration on the man face is saying a thousand words without having to say anything at all. I guess we all have this moment as people, where you just catch yourself and realise how lucky we are to have that person, that someone special.

With regard to the light, the shot is just taken using the ambient light available from the dance floor. I was trialing a 50mm 1.2 lens at this wedding and have to say it was amazing. In all fairness, the shot could have still been achieved with a 1.4 or a 1.8, however the 1.2 was incredible. A pleasure to use.

It really is moments like this that mean far more to me on a wedding day than the formal line up shots as they tell the story of the day. They capture  moment and, if you're lucky they capture an emotion.

Image of the week 4

This weeks image is from the the wedding of Oliver and Alexis.

The wedding ceremony and reception was held at Winkworth Farm, which a lovely barn conversion within a working farm, in the middle of some very beautiful countryside.

I had the great pleasure of meeting with Oliver and Alexis last year to discuss their wedding photography and it tuned out that they were very good friends of James and Laura, a couple who's wedding I was photographing the following month. The meeting with them was one that will stick in my mind very clearly for many years to come. The reason being,  once I had left them after our meeting I drove to my fiance's fathers house to ask for his blessing to marry her. He said yes!!!!

Oliver and Alexis were at James and Laura's wedding the following month and it was very clear to see how much they care about each other and also what good friends they are and have.

So, fast forward nine months and their day had arrived. It was lovely to see so many faces from the wedding of their friends the previous year. The day was full of laughter, love and had the feel of a wonderful, laid back, relaxed party.

I stole the bride and groom for 5 minutes during the afternoon for a quick walk around the farm grounds and we found this old building and it just had to be a shot.

I wish Oliver and Alexis many years of happiness, love and wonderful times together.

Image of the week 3

This weeks image is, for me , a truly beautiful image. Nothing to do with me, other than I shot it.

The lady in the wheelchair is the Grandmother of the Bride. Obviously it was a very important occasion for her to be able to attend and it is quite obvious too, just how much it meant to the Bride that she was there.

I love the tenderness between the two of them and the quite obvious pride on the face of the Brides Grandmother.

Clever shots are all very well and good, when they have a reason and, more importantly, where they necessary. The thing I love about this shot, is that it cuts through all of the styles, fads, trends etc. and reminds me that at the end of the day it's human connection that makes a moment special. Put it this way, without the people, this shot would be nothing. It's not about the dress, the venue or anything other than a genuine moment of love shared between two people.

Image of the week 2

This weeks image of the week is from the wedding of Paul and Lisa

As photographers we often capture the preparations before the ceremony. From details through to the bride getting in to her dress etc.

On this morning I was going between the rooms where the Bride and Bridesmaids were getting ready and the room where the Groom, best man and ushers were doing the same.

This is one of those great moments where people are concentrating on getting ready, dressed, texting their significant others and generally making sure that everything is set. Neither of the chaps were even aware that I was shooting this moment, until the shutter had clicked. There aren't too many times where you will see a couple of guys helping each other in the normal day to day. We're all used to  doing our  own ties, shining our shoes and making sure we are ready to face the world. Wedding days are one of the few occasions where men are happy to help each other out.

The shot was taken using available light with the camera set to 1600 asa.

Image of the Week 1

There are a few photographers who I follow on the internet. Either from their blog or just the regular updates on their websites.

I decided that it might be a nice idea to post a weekly image on the blog and then discuss the details surrounding it. This isn't going to be in the form of ASA, shutter speeds or apertures. The idea is just to discuss how the shot came about and what I think works about it.

I hope that this proves to be of interest. Please feel free to leave any comments ( no swearing or being stupid thank you. There are plenty of other places for that on the internet )

A walk at the beach

We decided to take Oliver to the beach for the very first time today. So, we bundled everything into the car, along with the dog and headed an hour down the road to Weston Super Mare ( or Weston Super Mud as it is affectionately known ).

As expected, the dog went nuts, Oliver was pretty oblivious and the sea was pretty far out in the distance, perfect for strolling along the beach.
